Bizarre...

Yesterday while trying to dream up something for dinner I thought I should use up the ham steak I bought at Safeway a few weeks ago ($2.37!) and remembered I had the yummy Paula Deen Honey Mustard Glaze (from TJ Maxx, only $3.99 regularly $8.00) ...done and done! The Mr. was excited and it's super easy (just cook in a pan with some honey) and we could clean out the fridge in prep for Turkey Day. Have I mentioned we are hosting dinner??!

The bizarre thing is that yesterday Paula was handing out hams in Atlanta and was knocked in the face (poor Paula) by a flying ham. So I thought it was a little strange that we had decided to have ham steaks with Paula's sauce the day she was injured. I hope she is doing ok.

Things That Make Me Angry...

I am not normally a bitter person (even though my 'skins are the worst) but Thursay I came across something that I made me a *little* angry. I went to the Caps game with my girl Tina and was sitting in their seats (3 rows from the ice!!) and I needed a new Caps shirt so we went to the store before the game with the Mr. and the Mr.'s bestie!

I motored over to the women's section and wanted a Leich jersey (ok, I knew that was a stretch) but a decent red t-shirt would have been fine. Why oh why do women's shirts have to have "glitter" or "sparkles" on them, that is not OK. I am a women who loves sports but does not love the beadazzled look on my tshirts. Dear designers, please reconsider. (There were other woman's shirts but I did not like them, I am picky.)

I ended up with a youth red tshirt with 52 and GREEN on the back. Tina and I matched (although she does have a real Green jersey) and I swear he saw us making googly eyes at him.

Don't get my started on pink jerseys...there is not enough time in the day!

Chick Fil A...tisk tisk tisk

We all know I heart the Chick Fil A and even now more than ever since it decided to move into the neighborhood. However, on the rare occasion I opt out of the waffle fry option and (I really wanted a shake and could not justify both) get the fruit cup, I get annoyed. Why? Because they charge you extra (60 cents)!! AND this weekend I found out they charge 20 cents for the honey wheat bun (I saw this online)!

Here I am trying to be healthy (please refrain from the "if you wanted to be healthy you wouldn't eat at Chick Fil A" comments) and I get "fined" almost an extra dollar to do so! Fail!

Btw...thanks to the Chick Fil A for making my chocolate shake an XL instead of a Small on Saturday (thank goodness for the Army 10 miler!)

Product Rave

I want to give a shout out to the Trader Joe's Turkey Kielbasa! Friday night's dinner was a success when I paired the kielbasa with onions, green and red peppers.

Since the kielbasa is pre-cooked (awesome!) I put some EVOO (agggh, I am not a Rachel Ray fan) in a skillet sauteed the onions and peppers for a few minutes and then added the kielbasa and cooked until it was browned. Served with a Bud Light Lime and all was good!

I could not have said it better myself...

...Dude It Adds Up!! This article is fabulous!! I love how Sally Sampson proved that fast food made at home is cheaper and better. I think we can all agree that we knew it would be better for you. I tell the Mr. all the time that I can/try to (pat myself on the back) make better and cheaper food than eating out. While we still enjoy going out to eat we try to avoid most fast food places, (give or take a Cal Tort burrito here and there) although I will admit I can't make a chicken sandwich like my friends at Chick Fil A.

A little background on me...
I look forward to Wednesdays for many different reasons: the work week is half over, Top Chef and as you now know the Food Section of the Washington Post. The Mr. usually takes the Post with him in the morning but always brings the Food section home with him and puts it on the coffee table for me to enjoy while we watch TV, how did I get so lucky ;) I love reading about new recipes, restaurants, the latest and greatest in the food world but what I REALLY love is the weekly ads, well only Safeway. ACTUALLY the Mr. and I shopped at the newly (a year or so) renovated Giant last weekend on Route 50 in Falls Church (b/c Safeway does not sell mini potato rolls for bbq sammys) and are now fans, so I will have to look at their ad now too.

Based on the Safeway sales and my coupons (I HEART coupons) I saved us $20 last Friday night. Before you get too impressed the 12 pack of Stella was $7 off, for a total of $10 for 12 Stellas! While that sounds great, nothing will beat the 50 cent beers in Praha (Prague) and better yet they came out of a vending machine at the hostel!
